I am guessing it has been about a week’s worth of work, and I have only scratched the surface regarding the overhaul of this website. It is my first shot at coding a WordPress site completely ground-up, so please excuse any bits of oddness. While my initial intention was to utilize WordPress as a means of lessening the work it would take to truly get this site going nicely.. primarily as a means to have a backend without spending ridiculous numbers of hours on coding one up… I soon discovered that stock and 3rd party themes were not going to work (easily) for my needs, so rather than bend them to my will, I decided to try my hand at coding one up myself. Trial, error, swearing, and too many late nights (mornings). As a plus though, and as I was well aware prior to beginning this task, doing what I did affords one a most priceless boon: I know how it works, intimately. Coding existing installations is one thing; ground-up is much more fun!
I feel it is far from finished, and will require many, many hours of work still before it is truly “ready for prime time.” I still need to refine visitor experience, media handling, comment handling, forum integration, streamlining of code, implement fixes, determine structure/content changes, refine/add/subtract graphic aspects, add more content, and more. Plus.. I need to get some music done to make all of this have an actual purpose!!!
So many ideas, so much demo material already recorded. As with the learning curve for coding this site, I am facing a similar curve with my music. Continuing with my rehabilitation of my hands (motorcycle accident in January 2001 injured both hands, with the right one separating from my right arm), as well as refining and continuing my music education; like many “rock musicians,” I skimped on theory and transcription so as to get playing as quickly as possible. Now that I have reached a point in my life that affords me an actual home life, I find myself wishing I had spent some of those hotel/motel afternoons studying rather than recovering from the previous night’s festivities.
Feel free to email me about any and all broken bits, and I hope this all shapes up and provides someone with some smiles.
